On Friday I am setting up my exhibition, Interweaving: Gerringong and Beyond at the Gerringong Library and Museum Gallery.

Holding a solo exhibition is one way for me to celebrate my dream of being an artist. This seed of an idea was born 36 years ago. I've taken the windy journey to get here. Sometimes I came across obstacles that took me on detours for many years. These journeys were so long, that I even forgot my dream at times. But spirit always put signs along the way enticing me back to following my dream.
Signs included:
- a university teaching degree that included some art units (the lecturer was my high school art teacher)
- pottery and drawing classes
- being a guide at the National Gallery
- creating art with my son
- making costumes, cakes and party games
- buying artworks (wood, glass, metal and many paint mediums)
- scrapbooking
- designing our homes
- visiting art galleries
- seeing sculpture exhibitions or graffiti art when travelling
- working in school libraries
- volunteering for the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA)
- meeting authors and illustrators
While volunteering for the CBCA I met an author who was on her own journey to practice illustration, and she encouraged me to follow my own artistic journey. And through this first step, one of many, I've been able to manifest holding my first solo exhibition.
